AI Consultant · Houston, TX Operator advisory

AI consulting for
Houston operators.

I'm based in Austin, two and a half hours west on 290. I built 11 brands and I run my own businesses on agents I designed. I work with Houston owners who want one workflow automated properly before they buy another AI tool.

Houston, specifically

Where I'd start with a Houston business.

I haven't run a company in Houston, so I won't pretend to know yours. These are the four patterns I'd check first, based on what the local economy runs on.

Oilfield services and energy suppliers.

Mid-size service companies and equipment suppliers quote from spec sheets, old bids and what the senior estimator remembers. An agent that reads the RFQ, pulls the matching past quotes and drafts the response takes the first pass off the estimator's desk. A person still signs every quote.

Practices and vendors around the Texas Medical Center.

The largest medical complex in the world has a ring of independent practices and suppliers around it. I start with the work that never touches a patient record: review requests, referral follow-up, hiring, the questions the phone line answers forty times a day. Anything involving patient data goes through your compliance lead first.

Industrial distribution and freight.

Distributors and freight operators near the Port live in email: order status, ETAs, document requests. An inbound agent that reads the message, looks up the order and drafts the reply is the most dependable first build I know, because it wraps the system you already have.

Engineering and professional-services firms.

Proposals, statements of qualifications, project summaries. The firm's best writing is locked in PDFs from past pursuits. Search over your own archive, with drafts that cite the source project, is the first thing I'd build.

What I advise on

Three buckets, no vendor pitch.

I don't have a partnership tier with OpenAI or Anthropic. I have a decade of direct P&L responsibility across 11 brands, plus Pickleland today, and that's the seat I advise from.

  1. 01
AI roadmap for founders. Where AI changes your unit economics in the next 12 months, and where it doesn't. You get a ranked list of the one to three workflows worth automating first, with what each costs to build and run.
  2. 02
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) strategy. How to get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini as well as ranked by Google. The output is page-level work: which pages to rebuild, which facts are missing, which schema to add.
  3. 03
Agent builds and design review. I build the agent in your stack, or review what your team is already shipping: where the prompts are brittle, which evals are missing, where the deploy will hit the wall.
AI search visibility

Getting cited when someone asks AI about Houston.

Run this test before you hire anyone, me included. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode and type what your customer would type:

  • “industrial valve supplier in Houston”
  • “orthopedic clinic near the Medical Center”
  • “commercial roofer in Katy”

Houston is spread out, so test by suburb. Katy and Pearland are separate searches, and one "Houston" page rarely covers both.

Write down which businesses get named and which pages get cited. If you're missing, the fix is usually unglamorous:

  • A Google Business Profile with every field filled in and kept current.
  • One page per service that states price, service area and hours as plain facts an assistant can quote.
  • LocalBusiness schema that says the same thing your profile says.
  • Mentions on the local sites the answer is already citing.

Three free tools to start with: the GEO checker, the AI crawler access checker and the schema generator. If the list above is more than you want to run yourself, that work is what the audit covers.

Who you're hiring

From inside live P&Ls,
not the slide-deck circuit.

UCLA '17. Built and ran a portfolio of 11 brands (~2M monthly readers at peak), now operating Pickleland in Pflugerville. I designed the AI agent systems that ran each one: content, SEO, customer comms, finance routing.

What I tell clients is what I'm doing in my own businesses. The strategy gets tested on a P&L I'm responsible for first. Cited in Forbes, Inc., HuffPost, BBC, Mashable.

Engagement shapes

Three ways consulting works.

FAQ for Houston AI consulting.

Are you based in Houston?
No. I'm based in Austin, about two and a half hours away. Houston engagements run remote-first, and I travel in for the kickoff and key reviews.
How much does AI consulting cost in Houston?
The same as anywhere I work. A 30-minute call is $300. The four-week AI + GEO audit is $9,500 and ends in a 90-day plan. Agent builds are quoted by scope, and I take two at a time. Book the call first if you're not sure which one fits.
What kinds of Houston companies do you work with?
Best fit: $1M–$25M in annual revenue, organic-leaning growth, a founder still close to the marketing P&L. Energy services, medical practices, industrial distributors and engineering firms all map well. Pre-revenue startups and Fortune 500 companies both have better options elsewhere.
Do you do AI consulting for oil and gas companies in Houston?
For service companies and suppliers, yes: quoting, proposals, inbound email and AI search visibility. I don't do reservoir modeling, predictive maintenance or anything else that needs a petroleum engineer. A specialist firm is the right call for those.
Do I need an AI agency or an AI consultant in Houston?
An agency sells you hours from a team. I'm one person working alongside the agents I build, so the person who designs your system is the person you talk to. If you need twenty people on site, hire the agency. If you need one working system and someone who'll tell you which ideas to drop, that's me.
Can you get my business cited by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews for Houston searches?
That's the GEO half of the work. I test the prompts your customers use, record who gets cited, and fix the pages, schema and profiles that decide it. Nobody can promise a citation, and I don't. The free GEO checker gives you a first read on any page.
Can we meet in person?
Yes. I come to Houston for discovery or kickoff. The Heights, Montrose and Downtown are easy meeting areas.
How is this different from a Big Four AI consulting practice?
Big Four ships decks. I ship deployed agents in your repo. I charge for the build, where they charge for headcount-hours. I cap at two builds at a time, and they staff hundreds. Which one fits depends on what you need.
